History
Al Jazeera was originally founded on November 1, 1996 in Doha, Qatar. The creation of Al JAzeera was largely due to BBCs closing of its Arabic Television station. The name itself Al Jazeera means "The Island" in Arabic referring to the Arabian Peninsula that Al Jazeera comes from. On January 1st 1999 Al Jazeera held its first 24-hour news report. At that time since inception its employees had tripled to 500 and had a budget of $25 Million. Soon after it became to most watched Arab News Network in 2000 with nightly viewership at that time of 35 Million people. Their rise began with the events in Afghanistan and the War on Terror in Iraq due to their strategic location near both of those countries in the Middle East.

Al Jazeera like any news network covers many different topics and ideas when reporting from drugs, to terrorism, to social issues. Al Jazeera mostly focuses on conflicts going on the Middle East as before broadcasting these conflicts has given them tremendous amounts of money and has become famous in that retrospective. Al Jazeera operates channels such as Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera America and once had a sports channel known as BeIN Sports which is now known as the BeIN Media group. Al Jazeera although is not without its fair share of controversy.During the 2017 Qatar Diplomatic Crisis one of the main focal points for countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to pull out of Qatar was that Al Jazeera in its broadcasts supported terrorism and that it would be shutting down any sort of Al Jazeera building in their countries. To this day it still threatens to shut down Al Jazeera and is a major threat to its survival.
